Languages represent who we are. Protecting this identity is a matter of human rights.

Yet, linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear, taking with them an entire cultural and intellectual heritage.

In many countries, students are taught in a language other than their mother tongue, which compromises their ability to learn effectively.

On International Mother Language Day, join unesco in calling for mother tongue-based education, and celebrating the power of multilingualism.
