2020: Using their platform

The Illinois football team used their uniforms to show messages of social justice. For the season opener against Wisconsin, they replaced the traditional orange and blue Block I helmet decal with a black Block I. For all games in the remainder of the season, players’ helmets were adorned with a small rear decal featuring a black fist. In addition, players chose one of five messages to appear on the rear bumpers of their helmets: Black Lives Matter, I Fight Against Racism, Together, Equality, or United.
