As an IVF mom and one that is committed to providing access to treatment thru the bundleofjoyfund that we created due to our own personal journey with infertility, it’s taken me some time to wrap my head and heart around the turmoil happening in Alabama. It’s so discouraging to watch lawmakers, who clearly don’t comprehend how their decisions affect assisted reproductive technology, continue to pass judgement that moves modern medicine backwards. There is a blatant lack of compassion and understanding for the 1 in 6 couples that will be diagnosed with the disease of infertility.

This ruling jeopardizes a treatment that is a the last hope for so many people trying to conceive. There are already so many physical, emotional, and financial hurdles for people diagnosed with infertility. Limiting access to care carries serious implications for IVF patients that have invested so much time, effort and money to build their families.

As I look at this photo with our miracle babies by our side, with the tree we planted in memory of our daughter and a continued symbol for our many loses and heartaches we faced over the years, my heart breaks for the people in Alabama. I take myself back to the overwhelming journey that we faced and can’t comprehend having that opportunity, regardless of the outcome, taken from us. I am not only grateful for our children but now grateful that we were able to go through our treatments. These couples have placed all their hope in a treatment that hangs in the balance. For some hope was put on pause. For some hope was lost. It’s completely devastating.

To all my IVF warriors in Alabama and beyond, please know that my heart is with you. This community will continue to advocate because access to care shouldn’t stand in the way of loving people becoming parents.
