"Hidden Figures" is based on a true story at Langley Research Center in Hampton. The book and movie follow the story of Katherine Johnson, who helped calculate NASA space flights, including John Glenn's 1962 mission. 

She fought for equality in the scopes of racism and sexism and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 by President Barack Obama.
