Thousands of saguaros and other native cacti were bulldozed by the Department of Homeland Security to build the border wall. 

The agency tried to save face by transplanting a few to the area, but after about six months many of the transplanted saguaros were already dead. Saguaro are very slow growing cactus — reaching only about 1.5 *inches* tall within the first ten years of its life. To stand as tall as the saguaros in this video once stood, they would have had to grow for decades to well over a century.
