Looking for some #WomensHistoryMonth inspiration? These Japanese women are giving us just that.

For the first time in over 1,000 years, women were able to participate in one of Japan’s Naked Man Festivals, historically a male-dominated celebration to attract good luck.

The Konomiyo Festival is the oldest of its kind, where a sea of scantily clad men parade through town to the shrine clutching bamboo poles decorated with ribbons, drinking sake, then splashing each other with cold water.

The 40 women who participated were spared the “naked” part: Instead, each donned traditional happi coats to make ritual offerings of bamboo grass to the shrine.

Who's joining us in Japan for next year's rendition? Read the full story linked in our bio.
