T-Minus 2 days until October, but we've got some suggestions to get a head start on your spooky season plans.

Spirits by the Sea & Ghost Walks Galore: Dive into local history as you get in touch with the neighbors who came before you in a town-wide ghost tour. Victorian Cape May and historic downtown Mullica Hill are two great options. 

Tredge through a graveyard: South Jersey is full of historic gravesites, like Walt Whitman's Tomb at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden. Just be sure to stay respectful. 

Hit up a neighborhood haunt: The Cherry Hill haunted Dubois House isn’t your typical DIY bedsheet-ghosts-hanging-from-the-trees type of haunt – it’s a five to 10 room haunted tour complete with a spooky theme, mechanical props and a troupe of enthusiastic local teenagers in chilling costumes lurking in the shadows. For $5 a pop, you can enter the Dubois House on Crestbrook Ave in Cherry Hill at your own risk.

Add a pinch of verifiable history: Running from 1811 to 1965, The Burlington County Prison Museum is often called one of the most haunted places in New Jersey. Visitors claim to hear moaning and chains rattling through the corridors and smell cigarette smoke wafting from the “dungeon.” Construction workers even say they’ve lost their tools, only to find them later locked in an empty cell on a separate floor of the prison.

But if you're not into that, there's more than enough hayrides, pumpkin patches and farm stands to keep the fall fun going, without the frights.
