The 63kg class at Classic Nationals is anticipating a phenomenal battle for the top spot. Here are the best recent totals of the top nominees:

Meghan Scanlon 542.5kg (1,196lbs)
Celine Crum 522.5kg (1,151lbs)
Brittany Suplicki 457.5kg (1,008lbs)

First up we have Suplicki, who is strongly favored for the bronze medal. She is no stranger to the pressure of competing as she has done so since 2018. We had expected her to compete at last year’s Nationals, but she ultimately decided not to. She is now hoping to make a strong comeback on the national stage.

Crum is a newcomer to the federation, but it would be a mistake to overlook her. Crum had intended to compete at Junior Classic Worlds in 2021, and was a strong contender to win it all, but unfortunately wasn’t able to participate and was forced to put her dream of becoming a world champion on the back burner. She did not choose an easy path by seeking to battle against Scanlon. There appears to be a spread between the two, but Crum is notorious for hiding her top end training leading into tight competitions. Has she closed the gap enough to pull off the win?

At the top of the nominations is Scanlon with a monstrous 542.5kg total, which she hit at the Texas Fall Championships this past November. She has quite the resume behind her: she is the two-time, undefeated 63kg national champion as well as the 2022 63kg world champion. She is coming back to defend her title against Crum, and she refuses to go down without a fight. Her training, specifically her bench press, has been phenomenal lately. She previously had to make proper adjustments to the new bench rules, but now it looks as though she has the potential to match her previous best at a massive 142.5kg. Additionally, the national squat record is her own, sitting at 195kg. She will be looking to bump this up, but Crum is not too far behind in the squat and could potentially take a shot at it.

Will Scanlon be able to fend off Crum and make her return to the World Championships? Or has Crum progressed enough to take her place? Tune in on Thursday, March 14 on the @sbdapparel YouTube page to find out.
