To escape the lines at Zion this summer, travel to Hildale instead. Despite its troubled, complicated past, the city has transformed into a destination for outdoorsy travelers looking to enjoy a quiet yet just as beautiful side of Utah.⁠

Water Canyon, often compared to the ultra-popular Narrows Canyon, sits just eight minutes from town. And half an hour east, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park offers off-roading and sand sledding adventures on its pink-colored dunes. Meanwhile, White Domes, an outcropping of cream-colored sandstone domes near the top of Canaan Mountain, draws in more experienced backcountry hikers.⁠

Hildale is also home to the rare Utah vineyard, Water Canyon Winery, whose owners also opened the Water Canyon Resorts, a collection of 20 luxury cabins nestled in the rocky landscape.⁠
