The 83kg class is always exciting and this year is no exception. Here are the best recent totals of the top nominees:

Russel Orhii 885kg (1,951lbs)
Christopher Perez 820kg (1,807lbs)
Angelo Fortino 819.5kg (1,806lbs)

Last month saw the standard for the 83kg class raised higher - as Delaney Wallace hit a whopping 842.5kg total at Sheffield to break the total world record. The national champion must go beyond the world record in order to secure their invite to Worlds.

Fortino and Perez - separated by just 0.5kg on nominations - are both making their debut on the PA national stage. Fortino is bringing with him an enormous PR deadlift of 357kg. He will likely deadlift last in this group and have the opportunity to choose who he wants to pull ahead of. Fortino has beaten Perez in head-to-head competition before, but Perez carries a slightly higher PR total. Perez has jumped into the competitive scene over the past few years as his total climbed steadily to place him among the best in the class.

At the top of the nominations, we have the return of the 83kg king in Orhii. He is a two-time world champion and is no stranger to battling against stiff competition. He carries with him a massive 885kg PR total, however, this was done in a higher weight class. His best total within this class is 843kg. He is the heavy favorite to make his long awaited return to the international stage, but he will have to fend off the other competitors as well as total above Delaney Wallace’s 842.5kg world record total.

Will this be a close battle for the top spot, or will the former world champion run away with it? Tune in on Friday, March 15 on the @sbdapparel YouTube page to find out.
