Travelers won big this week, after JetBlue and Spirit Airlines announced they were calling off their proposed merger following a successful lawsuit from the Biden administration.

The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit in March of last year to block the merger from moving forward, with Attorney General Merrick Garland arguing that it would limit consumer choices and increase ticket prices.

US District Judge William Young agreed, writing in January that a combined JetBlue-Spirit would hurt consumers who rely on Spirit’s low fares, pointing out that when Spirit enters a market, rival airlines reduce their prices by 7% to 11% on average. #jetbluespirit #biden #bidenadministration #virginianews #airlines
