EDITORIAL | “The ASUC — a body composed of students and voted for by students — is supposed to be an organization on campus that students can depend on. The purpose of the organization is to represent student voices in the broader campus decision-making process that often leaves out their perspectives. Yet, the inefficiency of the 2023-2024 ASUC class has distorted these assumptions, leading into a precarious election season where students must ask themselves, “Does this governing body really serve our interests?

With the filing period for the 2024 ASUC elections having just opened this past Sunday, now is the time that many UC Berkeley students have begun to consider running for an elected position. The question remains, however, as to how this next round of ASUC elected officials plans to differentiate themselves from the past, and turn their platforms into avenues for real change.”
