The 84kg class at Classic Nationals will see an exciting battle for the podium as well as a newcomer ready to put on a show. Here are the best recent totals of the top nominees:

Tiffany Savage 545kg (1,201lbs)
Marisa Ruland 490kg (1,080lbs)
Aliza Tessler 485kg (1,069lbs)

Tessler starts us off as a competitor who holds plenty of experience on the national and international stage. She competed at the last two PA Nationals, taking the silver medal at both in two separate weight classes. She also went on to compete at the NAPF North American Championships twice and hit the podium in both instances. She will likely be forced to battle it out with Ruland to jockey for the best placing.

Ruland is also coming in having faced the high-level competition environment before. She placed silver at both last year’s Nationals and the NAPF North Americans. However, she has yet to compete in the 84kg class on the national stage. She is coming down from the 84+kg class and will need to hold her strength to be able to best Tessler’s performance.

Rounding out the group, we have Savage who is the heavy favorite for the title. This will be her first time on the PA national stage, and it is looking to be a strong debut. She has a phenomenal bench press of 135kg, and we could see her attempt to take the national bench press record, which sits at 137kg.

We are missing the reigning world champion in Amanda Lawrence at this meet. She broke her own total world record at the Sheffield Championships just a few weeks ago with a 647kg total. The U.S. national team spot goes to the lifter with the highest total between Sheffield and Nationals, so one of these lifters will need to surpass Lawrence’s total to earn a spot.

Will Savage be the runaway favorite to take the title? Or will this become a tight battle to win it all? Tune in on Saturday, March 16 on the sbdapparel YouTube page to find out.
