The 84+kg class at Classic Nationals will see two phenomenal battles take place–one to hit the podium, and one to take the national title. Here are the best recent totals of the top nominees:

Alexis Jones 721.5kg (1,590lbs)
Bonica Brown 680kg (1,499lbs)
Patricia Johnson 575kg (1,267lbs)
Melissa Copeland 560kg (1,234lbs)

Copeland and Johnson are both highly-decorated masters lifters seeking out a battle in the open division. Copeland is the two-time Masters 1 national champion, and she has also placed silver in the Masters 1 division at Masters Worlds. Johnson, on the other hand, is the reigning Masters 2 national and world champion. Now both lifters will be looking to come away with a podium placing at their first PA nationals in the open division. Who will come out on top?

Brown is widely considered to be an absolute legend in the sport. She has been competing for over two decades and has been crowned the world champion seven times in the Classic division. She also competed at the inaugural Sheffield Championships, placing fifth overall and hitting her best total of 680kg. She will need to put up a strong fight to make her return to the World Championships.

However, Jones will be anything but an easy match for Brown. Jones is the newcomer in this battle–this will be her debut to the PA national stage. She has much less experience, but her total of 721.5kg speaks for itself. This is 11.5kg over the current total world record in the class. Jones was also the first drug-tested woman to cross over the 700kg mark.
