Teaching in Ballarat is always a pleasure—a diverse group with a practical approach to riding and horsemanship. There's a unique perspective on one-handed riding and small circles, especially when carrying a weapon and aiming at a movable target.
It takes skill for the rider to maintain balance, while the horse needs to be educated to perform the movements.

The moments when your horse takes educated steps forward are truly gasp-worthy. From the first ride in the arena for green horses to confidently riding out with a seasoned buddy, each step is a progression. Small building blocks are crucial, ensuring a solid, confident horse for every subsequent step.

We refine these moments, focusing on better balance in our seats to have a meaningful conversation with a well-educated horse. These detailed conversations often bring up great questions, finding relatable sports or movements to tap into existing patterns in our riding.

Moving from one breed or educational level of the horse to another takes experience, knowledge, and understanding. It's crucial not to overtax the horse or confuse an educated horse with exaggerated movements. This delicate balance is something we discuss and practice, ensuring a smooth transition for both horse and rider.

With different breeds, personalities, and levels of knowledge, the open-minded and interested group makes for a fun weekend away. It might sound crazy, but the warmer weather has been perfect for this work. The horses seem content to stand in a cool spot, making small changes while their minds absorb the information.

Our discussions often stretch late into the night, wandering off onto various tangents from the main path. It's all part of the rich experience of learning and growing together in the world of horsemanship.
