## Caption

Hoosick Street, which runs through the center of Troy, NY, is arguably the city’s most dangerous thoroughfare. And in the early hours of Feb. 22, 2023, police officer Justin Byrnes rocketed down the four-lane street at 88 mph, nearly three times the posted speed limit of 30 mph.  

On his way to an emergency call, Byrnes flew through several red lights before colliding with Sabeeh Alalkawi’s Honda Civic at the intersection of Hoosick and 15th streets. Alalkawi, a pizza delivery driver, was on his way back to the shop.  

The impact of the crash sent Alalkawi’s vehicle skidding across the asphalt, coming to rest nearly 200 feet from where he was struck by Byrnes’ two-ton SUV. Alalkawi died almost instantly, leaving behind a wife and two sons.
