Troy (N.Y.) Police Officer Justin Byrnes rammed his cruiser into Sabeeh Alalkawi’s vehicle at 88 mph in the early hours of Feb. 22, 2023, killing Alalkawi, a father of twin sons who was heading back to his workplace, Amante Pizza. 
 
Byrnes, responding to an emergency call, was one of three officers to fly through the city streets at top speed that night. It’s unclear if his siren was activated at the time. 
 
The state Attorney General’s Office is investigating the crash, as it does every police-involved civilian death. Alalkawi’s family, meanwhile, is pushing for more answers, while Byrnes is still working as a Troy Police officer.
