“Dr. Katie here!

Any parent will tell you that one of the hardest adjustments you’ll go through with a baby is enduring months of sleepless nights. Even when they get bigger there still can be moments of sleep regressions, teething pains and developmental milestones that can affect their sleep patterns.

We all want a peaceful night’s sleep for us and our little ones. So here are a few tips that can help get back on track:

1.) Evaluate your baby’s space. Setting the stage for successful sleeping habits starts with creating a perfect sleep environment! Now that the sun won’t set until 7:30 or 8pm following the Spring time change, it can make it more difficult for children to fall asleep with the natural lighting. Make sure to create a dark place for your child to fall asleep. Blackout curtains are seriously such a great investment!

2.) Red to bed! Evaluate what type of night light you are using. I highly recommend The First Years Sunset Soother for many reasons. Their night light naturally supports the production of the sleep hormone melatonin, and with the integrated sound machine it creates a calming environment for your little one! Most nursery night lights increase alertness, but their red light has been tested and proven to only emit wavelengths to help guide babies to sleep easier.

3.) Consistent routine! Babies are creatures of habit. So establishing the same routine each night is imperative to getting your baby on a proper schedule and on track to sleep through the night. I also recommend incorporating a nightly massage into their schedule. This can help to relax the muscles, soothe their body and help them drift off to sleep easier!

Happy sleeping :)”
