I often have to describe what I do for work and I commonly tell people, “I teach girls how to play catch and how to move better.”
.
Watching this video over and over, I see something else.
.
Through a lot of our time together, my girls follow directions even if they don’t know the why. They wait for my “go” and trust my plan for each day of learning.
.
In each session they develop ways to guide themselves. New drills to do at home & information that equips them to practice without me watching over them.
.
They try new things. They fail. They listen for advice for adjustment. And things begin to shift. Instead of just following directions, these girls start to lead themselves.
.
At a time when they have to go full speed through life even if they don’t yet know what’s waiting when they get there, they use me to help them navigate, but at all times, they are learning how to maximize their experiences with failure on their own. They are gaining the skills they need take control.
.
So yes, I teach defense. I am a softball coach. But mostly, I sell trust in the process.
.
There are good days and crappy days. There are skills you excel at and there are some that need some work. In times you don’t now which way is up, there are people you can go to for help. It’s all a part of the game.
.
What we love most is that it’s not easy. It won’t ever be...the minute we get too comfortable, the game humbles us really quick.
.
I love getting to work the process with these girls. Especially when things seem like they suck, we all need a reminder that its all part of the game. Your next shot is just around the corner.
