We’re debt free!!!!!!!

So there we were, long distance dating, both very normal and saddled with (mostly student loan, some cc, some car) debt. I moved across the country to be closer to him and without a strong plan. Realizing that I needed to take control of finances because nobody else was going to do it for me, I began searching for answers and a way to budget.

One day during a carpool drive to my teaching job, my friend Emily casually mentioned a money related comment and said something about “Uncle Dave” and I thought, ‘Um, it sounds like I need to know this guy.’ Bought the Total Money Makeover at Goodwill and was all in. For Christmas, I bought my (then) boyfriend the audiobook version and suggested we listen to it on the 12 hour drive back from visiting family. By the end of the trip, he realized he needed to sell his truck and suddenly he was all in. We enrolled in FPU as a dating couple, got engaged during the course of the 9 weeks and were so full of hope for our financial future. It took us a few months to gain traction and get started after we got married but paying off the first debt in our snowball locked it in for us.

6 years later, through getting married, having babies, moving across the country, job changes, and now finishing during a pandemic and deployment... WE HAVE PAID OFF $165,000 and we are completely debt free.

During this time, I was able to become a stay at home mom, we were able to tithe every month, we learned to embrace the abundance of contentment, ignored the Joneses and never once added to debt. THAT was GOD. Invite him to be in your finances and HE WILL MOVE.
