March of 2018, we decided to literally ✂️ all of our credit cards in half.
There were 8 of them y’all, not proud of that number and even more so the debt that accrued while they were in our back pockets.
But, before taking FPU (Financial Peace University) : we thought having debt was just “normal”, something pretty much everyone had. 🤷🏼‍♀️
The classes were a BIG eye opener, even to Danny, who has always been really good with numbers and not what you would call or daveramsey would call the “free spirited one” of the relationship - (he’s the “nerd” 😝). As of yesterday, we now OWN our van! We not only paid it off in full but 3 YEARS earlier!
The bank no longer owns it. 🙅🏼‍♀️ naive as we were also thought, even with a car loan and payments that the van was ours. But it wasn’t, it was the banks - that is until yesterday!
It hasn’t been easy but it is and will be totally worth it. We stick to a budget. We debt snowball. We account for every single penny that comes in each month before the month even starts. “A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” -Dave R.
We are on a journey of debt free living. And wanted to share with you all along the way. We saw so many stories and testimonies of how families became debt free. But never really saw families’ journeys through.
Especially larger families.
That year (2018) being the first year we spent only cash on Christmas gifts instead of swiping cards!
Wanted to be an encouragement to live a life of financial peace. “Financial peace not being the acquisition of stuff. It’s learning to live on less than you make, so you can give money back and money to invest. Learning to live like no one else so later we can live and give like no one else.”
As of today, we have gotten rid of ALL of our credit card/van payments !
We want to leave our children with a legacy that shows them how to handle money, God’s way.
