Craig & I still have a way to go, but today we wanted to take a deep breath, pause, and reflect on our 10 months and celebrate this... We payed off 11 DEBTS so far between the two of us in the last 10 months!!! 7 credit cards! 2 cars! 2 medical debts! I added extra work days, hours, services. We sold old things and budgeted every dollar we earned to the penny. We drastically cut spending & basically lived on less than half of one income. We skipped events, vacations, coffees, eating out, shopping for โ€œwantsโ€. I rolled my change, budgeted, & carried around cash envelopes. I watched endless hours of financial YouTube videos, podcasts, & social media accounts that pushed me to keep going. A HUGE Thank you to daveramsey & thebudgetmom! The real eye opener: Having a real and intense medical emergency, not being as prepared as what we needed, losing 6 months of my income, & having a 3 month hospital & NICU stay. The medical bills we received totaled close to a million dollars. (No joke.) Nothing opens your eyes like seeing those numbers. I promised myself in that moment to do everything in my power to tackle our finances & get our family in a better situation. We could sit around & pout for two years that Dylan canโ€™t go out, see people, or travel & that our life has been drastically different with his medical quarantine or we can show him & Layla that we were optimistic, proactive, productive, & used this time (and money) the best way we could! We will all have a better life moving forward thanks to us being in a more secure spot. It will protect us, heaven forbid we ever face something like that again....like with Covid 19. Iโ€™m out of an income again & I couldnโ€™t be more grateful that we spent the last 10 months doing this. We cut our monthly expenses in half, & Thank God we are ok right now because of that.
