15 months ago I thought I was great with money, I thought my ability to fit all our credit cards in my wallet and keep track of all our credit card limits or current balances meant I was paying attention to our finances. I thought it was normal to live paycheck to paycheck and that having a healthy credit score meant that we had more money at our disposal. Then one day my wife asked me how much debt we really had and how long it would take to pay off. It was a question that I couldn’t answer and was scared to actually do the math to find out. After we went through the numbers she realized that if we didn’t change we would be stuck in the same situation for the next 10 years. That night that we both agreed we would have to take control of our money. This shift in thinking is something we could’ve never done without the daveramsey baby steps plan. Finally we had clear (common sense) advice on what real financial goals should be and how to get there. It sounded so simple, that you almost feel stupid for not realizing it yourself sooner. Live on less than you make and budget every dollar to decide what your money is going to do for you, before you spend it. Now after months of sacrifice and selling everything we could we have finally reached the end of this journey! We are free of all our consumer debt and my wife will be graduating college with ZERO student debt! This has been a life altering experience that also helped our marriage in more ways than I could explain with lessons we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.
