This verse spoke volumes to me as I found myself in $44K of credit card debt. I truly believe that God doesn’t want his children to be enslaved in financial bondage. I got my first credit card at 18 with only a $300 limit, 17 cards and $44K later I found myself in what felt like financial slavery. Debt was suffocating, it was constraining. People that know me, know that I was constantly stressing over my debt. It wasn’t until I started visualizing myself debt-free that I took control of my debt situation.⁣

My sister-in-love introduced me to daveramsey and the rest was truly history. I started with downloading the #EveryDollar app and created my first budget. It’s embarrassing to say that I created my first budget at 33, but it’s the truth. #DaveRamsey said it best, “there are two types of people: ones who tell their money where to go and ones who wonder where it went.” I knew for sure that I didn’t want to be the latter anymore. I found that the best way to get out of debt is to devise a plan and stick to it. After all, a plan serves as the foundation to help you achieve your ultimate goal. So my plan was simple: identify my total debts so that I know what I am trying to tackle; diversify my income; arrange my credit cards in ascending order by interest rate; and then tackle each card starting with the highest rate until the balance on each credit card was gone.⁣

I know that I’ve made it sound simple. That’s because in addition to working this plan, I NEVER stopped living, I NEVER stopped traveling, and I NEVER stopped doing the things that I truly love the most. The thing is a budget doesn’t restrict you from enjoying life, it helps you to enjoy life more. I started on this journey in April 2018 and aggressively told my money where to go for 18 months. It takes discipline. It takes determination. It takes hard work, but most of all, it takes God.
