Flash back to October 18, 2014. .
8 days after giving birth to our second baby, we decided it was time for us to get a new car. We of course thought we needed the space. We wanted a newer car. We deserved it. .
Taking a 17 month old and 8 day old car shopping was not the best experience. But we found it. A 2014 Ford Explorer. Oh the room it had and all of the fancy features. Touch screen. Back up camera. Space and lots of it. Driving away from that car lot, we were now proud owners of a new to us car with 25,000 miles and a price tag of $35,000 after financing. .
November 2015. After coming home from a trip to Disney, despite having a great time, it was time to pay for our trip. The magical trip became not so magical when the bills started coming in. We were using our credit card to pay for it because, we deserved it. .
But, it hit us like a ton of bricks. We were DONNNNEEEE paying others. We wanted the money that we earned to go into our pockets, not theirs. .
One of the first things that needed to go was my beloved car. Oh what a hard day that was. I knew it needed to go. We could afford the payments but it was costing us $500+ a month and that’s a huge savings when you can find something cheaper. .
Car lots thought I was CRAZY when I would call. They didn’t take me seriously. They thought I was kidding. But we finalllyyy found someone who was willing to work with us. .
We found a $7,500.00 Ford Expedition. It had 112,000 miles on it and we knew it would be the perfect fit for us. .
Today, August 6, 2018, we made our LAST CAR PAYMENT EVER. We will NEVER, EVER finance a car again. Adding up just what we spent in interest alone on the explorer was enough for us to be able to purchase another car. It’s sickening. .
If we can do it, you can to!!! daveramsey has been a life changer for us. Honestly. We are on a one family income and have had 2 babies since starting the program. We are missing out on vacations and extra activities because we want to live like no one else now, so we can live like no one else later.
