We’re hoping to encourage you all by posting this! We were normal. Cars, Student Loans, CREDIT CARDS (ugh), borrowing from family, moving, braces, iPhones. You name it, we did it. We believed this was NORMAL and how you lived life. After the past few years of losing jobs, moving, buying/selling, and re-establishing, we knew something had to change. We’re old enough and make enough that we shouldn’t live paycheck to paycheck! We wanted to teach our children about how to handle and respect what money should be used for – not live and die by it. We knew of something called the Baby Steps by daveramsey and followed it “ISH” for a year which enabled us to pay off most of the debt, except about $20k. Then we started spending again on our credit card and that became a slippery slope. This year we went ALL IN, made a budget and followed it using everydollar , cut up our cards, and are now 100% debt free except the house (working on that furiously NEXT!). Now we’re able to properly save for an emergency! And vacation! And our next car! And retirement! And not live paycheck to paycheck! And most important, leave a LEGACY behind for our children, by teaching them these principles and adhering to them TOGETHER as a family. We’ve been transparent about the journey and praying that the family tree is forever changed! We’d love to do a debt free scream when our home is paid for! Will keep chugging along until that happens. Following God’s plan for money is the BEST plan! It is only by Him that we’ve been able to do this! And we thank Him EVERYDAY for the ability to put his ways into practice. We encourage you all to be weird!! .
