“I’m facing the future by showing up every day, even when I don’t feel like it,” says 28-year-old artist Diana Yesenia Alvarado (@deealvarado). “I let myself daydream, set ambitious goals and do my part to show support and empower those around me.”⁣

Diana’s colorfully painted clay sculptures celebrate the history and memory of her culture, and her hometown community of Los Angeles. Through her work, she is able to tell visual stories about her past, present and future.⁣

“My practice allows me to communicate and express myself beyond what I can articulate verbally. It’s also how I tap into a space of intuition, which requires a certain amount of trust and vulnerability. This is my first year working as a full-time artist and I’ve noticed I’ve become less intimidated by the materials. I’m willing to experiment and take more risks.”⁣
