Cash! Cash money! Everybody loves cash! Right?! Except… cash while travelling can be stressful.. Did you convert enough? Or too much? What if you loose it or someone robs you? 
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
 We try to bring the least amount of cash possible since most places take credit cards now a days. But we have found no matter where we go, we always need a bit of local currency for the local bazaars, street food, roadside fruit/veggie stands, etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When it comes to exchanging our local Canadian currency (CAD) to the local currency of our destination, we have found it best to wait until we are in our destination. We budget how much cash we plan to spend on local food and local vendors and bring that amount of cash in CAD. 
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don't convert cash in the airport! I repeat, don't! Cash exchanges in the airport seem very convenient but they will ding you HARD on extra "exchange fees" and "airport fees" leaving you with less local currency. 
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once we get out of the airport and have made it to our accommodations, we then will go out to find a currency exchange and do some grocery shopping (see 2 posts back 👀). We have found that converting in our destination country has given us better exchange rates than even converting at a currency exchange back home. We have even ran into trouble where the local currency exchange back home doesn't have enough of the currency we are trying to get or doesn't have any of it altogether. When exchanging in your destination country, you'll be sure they have plenty of currency!
