“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” -Psalm 23:4

What an honor it was to document, and participate in the remembrance stair climb this past Monday. To work with NC State Fire & Life Safety and the Army ROTC who both organized this event to remember and honor the sacrifices made by first responders, the tragedies, the lives lost, and the beauty of God’s saving grace. He who saved lives, who protected those who served and survived. Even though we walk through the valley, in this broken world with death and destruction, I will fear no evil, for my God is with me. My God who is at my side to protect and comfort me. Even with what happened today at UNC, and the fear that students continue to face, God is with us. Jesus is, has, and will continue to love and comfort us in suffering. While it is a horrible thing to be in lockdown, or to experience tragedies like the September 11th attacks, there is hope, hope in humanity, and most importantly in our Lord and protector. He who is coming again to strike down the enemy and raise us up with him in glory. We have this hope and comfort because of what Jesus did; he died on the cross to defeat sin and death. He took on our sins such that we may be born again with life and have the gifts that he blesses us with. We have the comfort to walk through the valley of the shadow of death without fear.
