“‘Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.’” -Matthew 7:13-14

Follow the path that is hard to find and hard to follow. All too common is the concern for ease and comfort. Passiveness is unsustainable and unfulfilling. Moreover, it is disrespectful–to yourself, to your significant other, to your friends and family, and most importantly to God. When we are saved from sin, having confessed Jesus as Lord, that isn’t the end of the story. We don’t just continue living as we were before: abounding in sin. We take action to seek after God always, to imitate Jesus, to listen to the Holy Spirit for guidance, to do what God has called us to do. This includes his commands in the Bible, and also to surrender your life to him and do what he commands, be it seeking the lost, giving up time and money to serve him and others, etc. It is far too easy to sit back and think that all will work out. We are called to action–God has commanded us to flee from passivity, to make disciples of all nations, to “enter by the narrow gate”. The narrow gate has a hard path full of struggle, but those who find it and pass through receive life. To even get to the gate you have to take an active role; you cannot be passive. This path will be flanked with persecution, rejection, and general hardship, but ultimately the path of Christ leads to light and life.
