Photo by brianskerry | In the eastern Caribbean Sea, a female sperm whale calf, about six months old, swims playfully in sargassum seaweed near the surface. Sperm whale families are matrilineal, led by older, wiser females. Male calves generally leave the family around age 14. This calf was born to a family that needed a new generation of females; she offers hope for their future. With that in mind, the researchers studying her family decided to name her Hope. #SecretsoftheWhales
