Photo lucalocatelliphoto | Beekeepers Hélène and Fary are based in the mangroves of Joal, Senegal, where they've discovered a ripple effect: Locals fear the bees, which has kept them from harvesting wood in this vital ecosystem. Beekeeping is proving to be a resource for both the environment and the economy; the June harvest resulted in 40 kilograms (90 lbs) of bronze-colored honey, born from mangrove flowers, to be sold at the village market.
