## Caption

Photo by paulnicklen | Emperor penguins propel themselves like rockets out of Antarctica's icy waters—astonishing leaps that seem to violate the laws of physics. Far from the comedic, waddling caricatures we often see depicted in pop culture, these remarkable penguins can dive over a thousand feet (300m) deep and stay out at sea for weeks at a time. This image was part of a series intended to portray a misunderstood species as some of the most athletic animals I've witnessed. Follow me PaulNicklen for many more images that challenge expectations and preconceptions of the natural world. #Penguin #EmperorPenguin #RossSea #Antarctica #Powerful #Athletic #Expectations #Preconceptions #NotWhatYouWouldExpect
