Photo by nicholesobecki / Papa Lukombo Kop works at a traditional, low-efficiency kiln where high heat turns logs into charcoal. This is the first part of a long-term project melaniegouby and I are working on with the support of insidenatgeo on the future of the Congo Basin, which is the second largest rainforest after the Amazon and plays a key role in storing Earth’s carbon. Follow nicholesobecki for more on the choices shaping the forest’s future—and our planet’s health. #congobasin #environment #climate
