Photographer PaulNicklen recently concluded a nine-month expedition to the Bahamas, where he and the SeaLegacy team worked to build awareness of the value that a healthy marine environment can provide. The region is home to the world's largest shark diving economy, contributing over $110 million annually to the local GDP. In fact, a single Caribbean reef shark is estimated to be worth $250,000 over its lifetime via tourism versus a one-time value of $50-60 when fished.
