## Caption

Photos by babaktafreshi / A colorful meteor appears against planet Mars at its brightest and closest to the Earth. On this August midnight in 2018 I was in California's High Sierra for a photo workshop during the Perseid meteor shower. One camera was left to do a time-lapse sequence for several hours. On any dark night, a consistent observer may see a meteor every 10 to 15 minutes on average, especially toward the morning. The rate is higher during meteor showers. #twanight #meteor #astrophotography #california
