Photo by kiliiiyuyan / A sea nettle floats near the ice in the Arctic. Scenes like this in Utqiagvik, Alaska, fill me with photographic wonder. Although long a common species in the Bering Sea region, sea nettles have now had a population explosion. The true cause is unknown, although scientists believe it to be due to the warming climate and a shifting of the ocean's currents, bringing more nutrients to Arctic waters.

My favorite spot on Earth is here, in the Alaskan Arctic. I know you have a place you love more than anything, and I encourage you to post images and tag them with #ShareYourSpot. Show us photos of your spot—from your kitchen window, a tent, or the top of a mountain peak. I’ll be curating submissions and featuring my favorites on natgeoyourshot. You can also follow me kiliiiyuyan for more from the Arctic.
