## Caption

Photo by Matthieu Paley paleyphoto / On a slippery icy stretch of the path leading to the Pamir Mountains in Afghanistan, a yak named Katchga (meaning “beige” in the Wakhi language) refuses to go on. Sixteen-year old Nematullah, an Afghan Kyrgyz on the weeklong trek back home, will eventually have the last word. In winter, sure-footed yak caravans are used to carry goods up and down the trail.
