🎨 In both abstract art pieces, an amyloid beta plaque touches a microglia cell, which activates a signaling pathway that is involved in the removal of neurotoxic agents. Eventually, the microglia eats the plaque, which limits the progress of Alzheimer's Disease. #SciArt

🧑‍🎨 Rina is at william_and_mary with a #biology major & an #art minor. On campus, they are heavily involved in developmental #genetics & stem cell research, and hopes to continue this type of work in the future. Their current art goal is to learn how to paint portraits! #SciComm

🧑‍🔬 John Lukens, PhD is a neuroimmunologist studying MS, autism, Alzheimer's disease, and brain injury at uvaschoolofmedicine!
