Hello from the other side 🎤

Unlike the Moon or Venus, this view of Jupiter in a crescent phase is impossible to see from Earth, even using a telescope. Since Jupiter's orbit is outside Earth's, an observer on Earth can only see the side of Jupiter illuminated by the Sun, so the planet always appears full.

As the most massive planet in our solar system, Jupiter has long been a source of fascination to scientists; its moons were the first moons to be discovered beyond Earth, a finding that changed the way we see our place in the universe.
 
Citizen scientist Kevin M. Gill created this composite image from seven images taken via the Juno spacecraft. Juno's mission was to deepen our understanding of Jupiter by studying its atmosphere for chemical composition, temperature, cloud motions, as well as mapping its magnetic and gravity fields to reveal its structure.
