Greenland's icy western coast and the small field of glaciers that surrounds Baffin Bay are seen here in this photo acquired by the Landsat 7 satellite more than 20 years ago. The striking image, part of a collection of over 9 million Landsat photos of Earth seen from space, was created using near-infrared, red, and blue wavelengths in a false-color composite.⁣
⁣
Landsat monitoring satellites, in partnership with USGS, are utilized to monitor and understand land resources that sustain human life on planet Earth.  Landsat 9, targeted for launch Sept. 27, is the latest in the series, continuing the nearly 50 year legacy of observing our changing planet.⁣
