Behold! The first images from GOES-16, NOAA's latest in a new age of weather satellites. This image show North and South America and the surrounding oceans. GOES-16, formerly known as GOES-R, launched on Nov. 19, 2016.

GOES-16 captured this view of the moon as it looked above the surface of the Earth on Jan. 15. Like earlier GOES satellites, GOES-16 will use the moon for calibration.
