## Caption

John Morton and the BRE team did more than road racing. They also entered the 1972 Baja 1000 in a modified Datsun 510 sponsored by Sugar Daddy caramel lollipops. It quickly became a comedy of errors. “We stopped for gas and it looked like it would be easy from there in,” Morton said in the 1973 book The Stainless Steel Carrot. “Then we hit a damn buzzard.”
