Reflect for a moment. What is it about being with other people in your life that makes you better?⠀⠀

Human beings are 99.9% genetically identical. Each of us must eat, breathe, consume water, and bond to survive. Humans are built from the same building blocks or DNA. Indeed, we are more alike than different. ⠀

Now, more than ever, we must also acknowledge that we are different. We face different challenges, traumas, and treatment on the basis of gender and gender identity, skin color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, income, and place where we live. Those differences can't be ignored, nor should they be.⠀

Now, more than ever, we face division and every reason possible to not come together in community, even though we also need it more than ever.⠀
⠀
We need each other to survive and thrive, but we also need to be known, to be appreciated, and to be lifted up, especially when our differences make it harder for us to find a happy, healthy, secure life. ⠀

When you reflect on the ways others make you better, do you think of the ways someone is like you? Do you take time to appreciate the ways others are different and give you new perspective?⠀

To be together is to recognize someone as they are, to recognize the challenges they face, to appreciate their difference, and to hear and acknowledge them.⠀
