It’s the Year of the Themis Apprentice and we’re taking a step by step look at everything which makes East Lancashire such a dynamic area for Apprentices – and why Themis is the perfect provider for you – at whatever stage of your career journey you are.

Today we’re looking at the unique geography of the area and why it makes having a world-class industry-leading training centre like Themis so vital.

Burnley and East Lancashire as a whole, have played a huge role in the history of industry.

The area remains to this day one of the most innovative driving forces in change and is playing a crucial role in the transformation to the new Industry 4.0 landscape.

The area’s history includes playing a vital part in the Industrial Revolution which between the mid 1700s and the mid 1800s saw the UK transition to machine-based manufacture – creating the modern world as we know it.

While the revolution was fuelled by changes in the textiles industry, which still have a solid base in the region, over the last century Burnley and the surrounding areas have seen huge modernisation in every area.

Now we have world leading engineering and aerospace companies alongside manufacturers of homewares, worldwide distributors and more - with giant facilities creating everything from fighter jets to mattresses.

At Themis at Burnley College we ensure we’re always ahead of the next “revolution” by constantly talking to industry leaders, building relationships and staying in touch with every development.

We keep our workshops and classroom equipped with the very latest in technology – with no expense spared so our Apprentices will be workplace-ready from day one. Our Centre for Manufacturing and Engineering Excellence represents a multi-million-pound investment which is constantly evolving to stay ahead of new trends. #YOTA2022
