“Out on course, we dreamed big in 2021, and it was such a hit, we’ve brought it all back and then some,” says Meryl Leventon, Race Director for the Heineken 0.0 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K, which take place next month, June 4 and 5.
 
“From Drag Queens on a catwalk in Hillcrest and a Top Gun Activation with a legendary Tom Cruise look-alike at the Observatory in North Park, to the Ron Burgundy News Anchor Desk on Adams Avenue and low-riders just down the road in Normal Heights, our course is packed with music and entertainment every step of the way!”
 
As the original Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon born in 1998, the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego event is now one of the largest in the 23-city series and consistently brings in approximately $50 million in economic impact to the city each year, including $25 million in direct spending over the course of race weekend. With 50% of the 20,000+ participants coming from outside San Diego and 30% from outside the state or country, the event also books anywhere from 25,000 to 35,000 hotel room nights.
 
“Starting at famous Balboa Park and finishing in Downtown with a water view, the team has worked really hard to reimagine the course experience and identity of the eight different iconic neighborhoods while we take you on the ultimate foot tour of America’s Finest City,” Meryl says of this year’s race.
