## Caption

An absolutely beautiful glass lake at Gougane Barra. Located in County Cork, it is said to have originally held a monastery. The current ruins are dated to the 1700s when a priest from Cork used to retreat to it. It’s remote nature  made it a perfect place for Roman Catholic Mass to be celebrated during the oppressive penal laws that prevented the religion from being practiced in the open.
