Food waste in the United States is ever increasing, with currently more than $160 billion wasted on food each year. The effects of food waste trickle down and impact many other issues such as water supplies and greenhouse gas emissions.

However, the community in Fort Collins is mindful of this. Many places such as the Mountain Avenue Market, Foco Cafe, and Vindeket Foods provide local foods that are packaged sustainably, and provide a bridge between affordability and accessibility gap.
