As a mother it’s difficult to let go. As a little sister - even more so. Middle son/big brother is off to live in Doha for a year to gain some work experience.  So he’s excited. 
Me, not so much. 😔

Plus, I hate saying goodbye due to my being a very prolific blubberer. 😭My added worry for him, of course, is his Type 1 Diabetes.  I’ve been his “pancreatic aid”, shall we say, for quite a few years now so it’s even harder to wave him off to the other side of the world desperately hoping he’s able to handle the highs and lows (literally) of diabetes. 
But as Lao Tzu said, it’s also a new beginning. He’s entering into his adult life with a certain amount of independence but not entirely since he will be living with family over there. I was lucky to be in a similar situation at 18. I went to live in Tacoma for a year (with people who weren’t family but became it) and had the time of my life. So I understand the excitement he must be feeling and now, finally, I understand how my parents must have felt as I took my leave all those years ago.

Thanks goodness for technology and being able to keep in touch with him so easily though.  Back in good old 1986, it was a handwritten letter and nothing else. 📬 And yet, there’s something amazing about being able to sift through those kept letters nowadays and re-read all the things that were said to each other.

Right, that’s it. I’m going to start writing letters to him….. bet he won’t ever reply!💌🤔
