Recent studies revealed that one of the keys to happiness and satisfaction is right on the dance floor.

A 2013 study on teenagers suffering with anxiety, depression and stress found that those who attended dance classes (with the emphasis on pleasure of movement rather than performance) showed a significant improvement in psychosomatic symptoms and reported feeling happier.

Another study had participants having fewer negative thoughts, better concentration and a greater sense of peace and tranquility.

When we dance our brain releases endorphins, neurotransmitters that create a feeling of comfort, relaxation, fun and power. Music and dance do not only activate the sensory and motor circuits of our brain, but also the pleasure centres. Also, when we dance , our muscles relax to the music which helps to free up tension in our bodies (can’t help you with aching knees, I’m afraid!) So let’s get out there and throw some shapes.
